The Five For Puppies and Dogs To Thrive in Our World

Dogs and puppies desperately need us to understand their canine communication signals. Puppies are puppies and are for all intents and purposes are blank canvasses. When a puppy does wrong in our eyes, we call it a problem..when in reality it is just a puppy finding its way in the world with you. Very much like any child would do.

It is up to us to guide the puppy and show it what is acceptable behaviour, without using forceful training techniques or bribing it to preform human forms of control. If you have a positive attitude and oodles of patience then you will succeed. If however you are impatient and try to teach the puppy things that are too much too soon for it to understand and your lessons too long, then this results in frustration on both sides.

I prefer not to do the "lesson". My preference is to bring the puppy up showing it as you go through the days and weeks ahead, that he can look to you with understanding, trust and love. Learning happens with everything you do whether it involves your puppy physically or not. They watch and learn and best of all they learn in an environment that is conducive to learning...LOW KEY AND STRESS FREE.

When you start putting pressure on and teaching in an environment not suitable for the task then your will fail your puppy.

Leaning should be fun and learning is about fitting in with your world. The A grade tricks such as walking with you will happen if you take the pressure off to get it right.

Acclimatizing to your world is paramount. BUT you do not need to go out of your way and push the puppy into situations that you don't know how to deal with if the puppy reacts in a fearful way. You'll do more harm than good. Get to understand your puppies calming signals so you will know if your puppy is not coping, don't wait until the puppy is so obviously fearful to then try and rectify the situation.

When do you need to start lessons, what lessons does your puppy need ? He needs life lessons, how to play with well balanced adult dogs and puppies of similar age and size. He needs to learn off you just how to fit in and respond to you in a well balanced way..not hour long sit and stay lessons, which are a way of controlling not teaching self control.

My Book "Why Does My Dog Do That?" helps you get the best out of your dog. Although this book is mainly directed at problem and rescue dogs, it does give you a good starting point to understand where your puppy is coming from.

The five To Thrive In our World is covered in Why Does My Dog Do That?

·         * WALK ...     HOW YOU WALK AND WHERE YOU WALK

·         * PLAY ...        HOW YOU PLAY

·         * DANGER ... HOW YOU DEAL WITH THEIR FEAR

·         * REJOINING AND AFFECTION ... HOW AND WHEN YOU  GIVE AFFECTION

·         * FOOD  ...  HOW YOU FEED AND WHAT YOU  FEED

·         ALL THE ABOVE GIVEN IN THE RIGHT WAY AND EQUAL  PORTIONS WILL GIVE YOU A FRIEND WHO TRUST AND RESPECTS AND LOVES YOU
